Don't get me wrong, I don't claim to be an options trading guru (yet). However, I have learned a lot of valuable lessons over the last few years.... most of them the hard way. I’ve also learned from some excellent resources, including books, training courses and other successful traders.

Most option books cover the basic strategies but they leave out when you should use these strategies and what to do when the trade goes bad. Very few books talk about adjusting trades. The best one I found that does is The Option Trader’s Handbook – Strategies and Trade Adjustments by George Jabbour and Philip Budwick.

Options enhanced our ability to mitigate risk, by limiting downside and (in certain cases) allowing for unlimited upside potential. One of the drawbacks to long options trading has always been theta, or time decay.

I have read all the books and attended numerous courses, but my trading didn't improve, until I started to analyze my own trades that I discovered a 4-step approach when combined with a structured traders mentality that produces reliable, consistent and substantial returns.

Very few ever discuss the power of buying deep-in-the-money call options where you control the full upside of a stock for less risk and with far less capital.
