This time last year I was gushing about these stunning designer Disney princess gowns. Originally the stars of Harrods lavish Christmas windows, the gowns are making a reappearance this year as part of Christie’s annual Vintage Couture Sale, and are now being auctioned to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
Once upon a time, some of the world’s leading high-end fashion houses including Versace, fellow Dominican- American, Oscar de la Renta and another regular contributor to the red carpet, Elie Saab, partnered up with Harrods and the team at Disney. The results far exceeded our wildest expectations. History in the making. Now, we have a rare opportunity to get our hands on a piece of it.
True, when bidding starts on Wednesday, you’ll need to be prepared to spend thousands of dollars–The auction house estimates their prices at £3,000 – £6,000 or $4,827 – $9,654— but really, what price would you expect a one-of-a-kind princess-inspired dress to fetch? If I had money to burn, Belle’s iconic yellow ball gown would be mine in an instant. As it is, I’m willing to bet it’s going for a much higher price, and I’m tracking the lot to learn what the result will ultimately be! Which gown are you most in love with? What is it worth to you?
